The FRITZ! Mesh combines multiple technologies into an intelligent Mesh Wi-Fi, which provides the best connection for all wireless devices In the Mesh the FRITZ!Box or FRITZ!Repeater on the internet connection controls the connected FRITZ!Repeaters and FRITZ!Powerline devices so that your devices such as smartphones, tablets, game consoles and much more always have the optimum connection.

Crossband repeating and Mesh steering

The foundation for optimum FRITZ! performance in the Mesh is laid by technologies such as intelligent crossband repeating and Mesh steering.

In the Mesh, the FRITZ!Box has the connection information of all terminal devices with Wi-Fi capability (e.g., smartphones and laptops) and the FRITZ! devices with Mesh, such as FRITZ!Repeaters and FRITZ!Powerline. As soon as the FRITZ!Box determines that a better connection is available for a wireless device, it prompts the device to change to a more suitable FRITZ!Repeater or to another frequency band network. The assessment accounts for many factors, among them the current wireless connection and the load on the entire Mesh. For Mesh steering to take effect, the wireless devices must fully support the 802.11k and 802.11v Wi-Fi standards. However, the decision as to whether the request to switch is also carried out ultimately lies with the wireless device itself.

When you move beyond the Wi-Fi range of your FRITZ!Box into the area covered by your FRITZ!Repeater, you may observe how the display of the Wi-Fi signal strength on your smartphone display initially drops and then suddenly rises to full quality – that was your FRITZ!Box's Mesh steering.

Intelligent crossband repeating uses all Wi-Fi bands for communication between the wireless device, FRITZ!Repeater and FRITZ!Box to increase the available bandwidth for devices registered with a FRITZ!Repeater. Dynamic smart repeating brings even more performance to your Mesh Wi-Fi by deploying the available frequency bands more dynamically to ensure the perfect connection between FRITZ!Repeater and FRITZ!Box.
